The Wall Mexico and the United States
The border between Mexico and the United States is
one of the most controlled borders in the world. It is about 3,145
kilometers long and crosses deserts, rivers, mountains, and cities. To
control movement and reduce illegal immigration, the United States has
built walls and fences along parts of the border.
There is not one continuous wall along the entire
border. Since the 1990s, different types of barriers have been built,
such as metal fences and steel walls. These constructions were made
under several U.S. presidents, from different political parties.
The most protected areas are big cities and places
with many border crossings. In other areas, there are fewer barriers and
more border patrols.
The main goal of the wall is to reduce illegal
immigration and stop illegal activities like drug trafficking. U.S.
authorities say the wall helps border agents control and protect the
border.
However, the wall does not stop migration
completely. Many migrants still try to cross the border, often using
longer and more dangerous routes.
The wall is a strong political topic in the United
States. Some people believe it is necessary for national security and
law enforcement. Others criticize its high cost, limited effectiveness,
and human impact.
Human rights groups say the wall puts migrants in danger. Environmental groups say it damages nature and wildlife.
Today, the U.S.–Mexico border includes walls,
fences, surveillance technology, and border patrol agents. Border
policies change with different governments, but the border remains a
major issue for both countries.
The wall between Mexico and the United States is
not only a physical barrier. It also represents difficult the link
between the U.S and Mexico.
