What is Creative Commons?According to the Creative Commons website, Creative Commons "is a nonprofit organization that works to increase the amount of creativity (cultural, educational, and scientific content) available in “the commons” The body of work that is available to the public for free and legal sharing, use, repurposing, and remixing.”
In 2001, in response to the Copyright Term Extension Act, also known as the Mickey Mouse Protection Act, Harvard law professor Lawrence Lessig associate with professor of Computer Science at MIT Hal Abelson and activist Eric Eldred to co-found the organization Creative Commons. Lessig's goal with this organization was to create softer intellectual property laws in order to make sharing anything on the internet easier. It was in 2002 that their first licences were created.
Why are the Creatives Commons useful (to student publications)?Students (and everyone) can use the Creative Commons licenses to publish and share online projects like articles and illustrations… While, as enable to choose the terms of use. In this way publications by other people can be used but with some terms.

Which license should we choose for our blog articles of the class?In the case of the class’s blog, it could be suitable to choose the license Attribution-Noncommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA). This license allows for use and adaptation with credit, but not for commercial use and must attach the same license. Because our articles are in a school setting, it couldn't be appropriate that they be used in sales.
